1st Presentation Sea Scouts was founded in 1955 when Br Jerome Kelly gathered a group of 6 boys and began a legacy. In 1956 our Scout House, Dunboy, was built at the Kings Wharf which stood as a landmark until it was demolished in 2009. The group continued to grow and after Bro Jerome Kelly’s retirement the group was led by the late Bro Micheal Samuel as Principal and Group Scout Leader from 1975 till his retirement in 2002. He was ably supported by Michael Bachan Scout Leader. During that period the troop saw tremendous growth in numbers and the rise to fame of our Bugle band winning the first ever National Bugle Band competition. Despite the loss of our Scout House at Kings Wharf in 2009, and our Down D island Home at Copper Hole, the Troop has had significant growth over the last 7 years. Our refurbished band continues to be heard every third Sunday at Church parades and at various school and community functions. We remain committed to three camps a year and continue to visit Scotland Bay, Sanderson Park, Grenada and Tobago. The troop was well represented at both the 2014 Caribbean Jamboree held in Curacao and the 2015 World Jamboree in Japan. Thanks to the support of the Past Scouts Association and parents and friends of 1st Presentation Sea Scouts both at home and abroad We now have four pirogues, a small aluminum boat and a 25 HP Engine for our boys to practice their rowing and boating skills.
A Brief History
What we do
As part of the National Scout Association we strive to achieve our mission through a scout program specially tailored for Sea Scouts. The program includes many activities which boys are expected to participate in and progress through during their scouting career at the College. Such activities include Rope work, First aid, compass and mapping, swimming and rowing activities and our three camps held during the Easter, Summer and Christmas vacations where boys put into practice the skills they have learned.
Our Weekly Meetings are held on Tuesdays at the College grounds from 2.45pm to 4 pm and on Fridays at the Kings Wharf from 3.15 to 5.30 pm during the school term.
As a Catholic Troop we attend mass accompanied by our Bugle Band in full colors to express our commitment to our Catholic faith on the third Sunday of every month during the School term.
Through our Scouting program and our commitment to the community the troop lends its Bugle band at many functions and school sports throughout the year. The Troop has just recently been involved in assisting with the renovation of the San Fernando Coterie of Social Workers.
1st Presentation Sea Scouts supports the Mission of Scout TT:
“To contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities through the application of our Principles and Practices.”
We continue the proud legacy started by Br Jerome Kelly and embraced by Bro Michael Samuel to develop those in our charge to be good citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago by following the Scout Law and embracing the Promise. The skills learnt goes way beyond the tying of knots, boxing a compass or orientating a map. It’s about leadership and character building, teamwork and perseverance. It’s an adventure like no other, an experience that will guide you for a lifetime, memories that will warm your hearts and minds for an eternity; it’s about friendships as strong as that unique Presentation spirit that binds us together forever. It’s about developing young men of Virtue, Integrity and Consistency. Welcome to the Brotherhood of 1st Presentation Sea Scouts.
